Law Enforcement Innovation
The age of using predictive and smart policing to reduce and prevent crime is here.
Dr. Uchida has been at the forefront of combining technology and innovation to create safer communities.
He has work with the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Police Foundation and other organizations to develop and implement new policing strategies that emphasize the use of predictive analytics, new technologies, and criminological theory to predict crime locations and potential victims of crime.
More specifically, he has developed a multi-disciplinary approach that brings together advanced technologies, criminological theory, and tactical operations that ultimately lead to results and outcomes, such as crime reduction and management efficiency.
Dr. Uchida has also worked with the Los Angeles Police Department and
U.S. Department of Justice – Bureau of Justice Assistance to implement smart policing techniques. These are tactics that use computer mapping, spatial analytics, social network analysis and other data to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and economics at law enforcement agencies at a time of budget constraints and limited staffing. In Los Angeles, he relied on these strategies to help police extract suspects and offenders involved in gun and gang-related crimes.
